Dr Carlene Firmin is a Principal Research Fellow at the University of Bedfordshire, where she leads the Contextual Safeguarding programme. Her theory of Contextual Safeguarding has informed policy and research agendas for advancing the protection of adolescents in the UK and internationally, and has led to changes in social care responses to extra-familial abuse in England, Wales and Scotland.
